Traveler in Pain has been rocking New Mexico crowds for 20 years. Where were you in January 1999? I was still a middle school teacher, Gas was Cheap and bars were a plenty in ABQ. I was fortunate to start Jamming with 3 lads David Baca , Anders Fingold and RL Florez for a few months before playing out in public. We hadn't really decided on a name but had some ideas, including Traveler in Pain, which was a song written by my pops and played by my previous band Raging Fury in the early 90s. After many practices in Anders' living room, RL's garage and David's trailer in Los Lunas, we finally made our debut at a Superbowl party in Rio Rancho at some dude Teddy's house (I kept calling him Keith for some reason). There was a band playing before the game, then at halftime we were up. At which time, Anders began playing the drum intro to Sympathy for the Devil and I uttered the famous (or infamous) last words before rocking the garage "we are Traveler in Pain" and so it came to pass. From Uncle Rick's 40th, David's housewarming, Lance's 30th, various benefits and Bandido events to closing the year with successful runs to Santa Fe, Farmington and The El Rey Theater in our first year. That was a long time ago. Many years have come and gone, a different day, a different song. While many friends have come and gone their separate ways, the only constant that's remained for me is PAIN, Traveler in Pain, that is. Fortunately, we were able to have a lot of fun getting to 19 years. While the line-up, the scene and the venues did change; the original four are all rocking in their own groups successfully as well... The band consists of Lance Sedillo, lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Brian Maestas on Lead Guitar and back-up vocals, Todd Wilburn Drums and backing vocals, as well as our recording producer/engineer, and Anton B Rich on Bass. We currently average two weekends per month between Albuquerque's favorite live hotspots. We are hard at work at incorporating newer material into the set-list, to make the next year rocking the best so far, as we add some out of town venues and summer parties. The current set list varies from Classic Rockers like Elvis, Jimi Hendrix, Cheap Trick, The Rolling Stones, ACDC, Tom Petty, Stevie Wonder, Lynard Skynard, the Doors, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Kiss, Classic Metal from Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Dio, to contemporary heavyweights Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Godsmack, We've played a whole a lot over the years, as clubs have come and gone and re-opened (Neds, Barley Room, Sneakers/Senor Buckets, a return to Sidelines, performing at Sky City, Route 66 Legend's Theater and the VIP opening for the likes of Avenged Sevenfold, Iron Maiden, Steely Dan and Elvis Costello. Slaughter, Queensryche, Great White and Jethro Tull! Hooligan's came and went, as did Misty's, Elliotts, Sprokets, Jokers, Wileys, The Press Room, The Golden West and Malarkys was steady for us over the past 10 years before closing. 2018 will have us Adding lots of new covers new recorded original material, as we have already started booking shows well into summer. We have been honored to host as well as participate in a number of benefits, Bike Runs, the Santa Fe School Dud's benefits, 94 rock's Thanksgiving on the Mayflower, as well as the two Christmas parties on 94Rock In December, being part of the 9/11 Memorial Foundation and having a brick that says Traveler in Pain, and other Charitable events. Some highlights have include the sold out Creepy Crawl in 1999, various sold out El Rey and Golden West Saloon shows, various live unplugged appearances on 94rock, the sold out CD release in 2006, as well as being selected to represent Albuquerque and New Mexico at the Journal Pavillion for Cruefest 2. We also are part of Tribute shows paying homage to all our favorite bands as well as original shows, showcasing some of Albuquerque's best groups such as In the End, Skulldron, SHI, Black Mesa, Loco Mofo, Ravenous, 45 Caliber Band, 100 Proof, Shadows Reach, Twist of Fate, August Rayne, Blue IV, Just Lazarus, 8Points, The Michael Ruelas Project and Dope Riddle. The band offers a broad, diverse and entertaining musical experience time and time again. At times, the members have changed, as well as the musical content. However, the dedication, perseverance and the inspiration provided us by our "Family of Pain" (fan base) have provided us the opportunity to perform our preferred musical styles (including original material) on a consistent basis; to friends new and old. Jazz, Funk, Speed Metal and Blues, as well as material from our two cds, which are fan favorites as well. You get all this in four entertaining, energetic hours. “Yeah, that makes up a Pain Show!!! " We have two studio albums of original material, released in 2000 and 2006, respectively. And we are currently writing material for what will be our next full length album. Until Next Update, Pain...

14 Years of Traveler in Pain
And now for the history lesson:
Traveler in Pain has now been rocking New Mexico crowds for over thirteen years. Where were you in January 1999? I was single, a bar fly, still a teacher at Bernalillo Middle School, driving a beat-up 69 Mustang and living in a cheap apartment in the NE heights. Gas was Cheap, Clinton was Still getting blown by Lewinski, and there were no Cleveland Browns, my sorry football team in the NFL. I, However, was fortunate to Jam a debut gig with 3 lads David, Anders and RL at a superbowl party, in which I uttered the famous (or imfamous) last words before taking the stage (or garage, as it were) we are Traveler in Pain. That was a long time ago. I'm now a happily married family man (we even have a dog), we have bought our own home, After twelve years at a job helping troubled teens, became Semi-Retired, and have two years in with the State of New Mexico. Many years have come and gone, a different day, a different song. While many have come and gone their separate ways, the only constant that's remained for me is PAIN, Traveler in Pain, that is. Fortunately, we were able to make year 13 a lot of fun, as well... We've played a whole a lot this past year, including adding a few new clubs which have come and gone and re-opened (The Press Room, Barley Room, Sidelines and Hooligans),returned to Malrkys as well. Added lots of new material, Elliotts Showcase shows, showcasing some of Albuquerque's best groups such as In the End, Skulldren, SHI, Black Mesa, Loco Mofo, 100 Proof, Unhinged, Slippery Weazel, Shadows Reach, Twist of Fate, August Rain, Blue Ruin, Just Lazarus, 8Points, The Michael Ruelas Project and Dope Riddle. We have been honored to host as well as participate in a number of benefits, Bike Runs, the Santa Fe School Dud's benefits, 94 rock's Thanksgiving on the Mayflower, the 9/11 Memorial Foundation, and other Charitable events. Some highlights have include the sold out Creepy Crawl in 1999, various sold out El Rey and Golden West Saloon shows, various live unplugged appearances on 94rock, the sold out CD release in 2006, as well as being selected to represent Albuquerque and New Mexico at the Journal Pavillion for Cruefest 2, the sold out In the End Cd release with In the End, SHI, the Dregs and Black Mesa. The band consists of Lance Sedillo, lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Brian Maestas on Lead Guitar and back-up vocals, Todd Wilburn Drums and and backing vocals, as well as our recording producer/engineer, and Tom Michaels, Bass and backing vocals. To date, this is the heaviest (no, not another fat joke), diverse, and busiest line-up we have had so far. We are a veteran band of the local bar circuit. We currently average three weekends per month between Albuquerque's favorite live hotspots, as well as occasional trips to play in Los Lunas, Farmington and Zuni. The Week of January 31st, we just completed our 13th year of rocking New Mexico. In commemoration of us rocking New Mexico for 13 Years and our new single Thirteen years of Pain coming out, Traveler in Pain has comissioned a new copywritten logo . The Original Logo will still be active and the "Traveler Man" will still be used regularly. This new logo is an Ambigram. It reads the same when flipped. Some people have been questioning what this says, so we are posting this for everyone to see and know that it still says Traveler in Pain. "It's just a little modernized, to also match our new sound." This was comissioned by renowned ambigram artist Mark Palmer and we believe it is awesome! 2012 also ushered in a new sound system Painfully constructed by brilliant Sound Engineer Exraordinaire, James Wood , new t-shirt graphics, jewelry, stickers and more. Stay tuned. We have already began booking through the first part of 2012, so we hope you and the various new establishments will be part of our celebration of completing our 14th year rocking. We are hard at work at incorporating newer material into the set-list, to make the next year rocking the best so far. We'd like to say we sound like ourselves but a lot of our varying influences show up throughout the set. The current set list varies from Classic Rockers like Elvis, Jimi Hendrix, Cheap Trick, The Rolling Stones, ACDC, Tom Petty, Stevie Wonder, Lynard Skynard, the Doors, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Kiss, Classic Metal from Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Dio, to contemporary heavyweights Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Godsmack, Danzig, Disturbed, Newly Added Cee Lo Green, Prince, the Sugar Hill Gang, Foo Fighters, Rage Against The Machine, Buck Cherry, Velvet Revolver, Pantera and Rob Zombie, Jazz, Funk, Speed Metal and Blues, as well as material from our two cds, which are fan favorites as well. You get all this in four entertaining, energetic hours. “Yeah, that makes up a Pain Show!!! "We have two studio albums of original material, as well as a double live album in 2008. Our last studio album "Paths of Sorrow, Roads to Pain...” released in 2006, is loosely a conceptual piece of work, which deals with different people's walk through life (including our own). At times, this walk leads to anguish, pain, sorrow, self-destruction, love, loneliness, greed and sometimes tragedy. However, the message is clearly a positive and inspirational. And as of this writing, the guys and I have laid the basic tracks for the single Thirteen Years of Pain, and are throwing riffs and ideas together for a full release. Traveler in Pain began Jamming in the winter of 1998, as members of different bands and projects got together to play heavy rock music. The original members, myself (Lance Sedillo), David Baca, R.L. Florez, and Anders Fingold worked our asses off to break into to the local scene. Our interpretations and versions of classic rock and classic metal tunes from our favorite bands, ranging from Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Ozzy, Kiss, Pink Floyd, as well as music from contemporary artists such as Danzig, Candelbox, and Iron Maiden, soon became fan favorites. In our first year together, the band progressed from playing keggers for family and friends, to taking on bigger endeavors such as headlining several shows at the El Rey Theater (including the highly successful Creepy Crawl 1999), performing several times at sprockets in Albuquerque, and playing Gators in Farmington. In early 2000, the band met its first serious challenge when we learned our drummer, Anders Fingold would be moving back home to Chicago. The band entered Broadway Studios in February 2000 to complete the basic tracks of what would later become the band's self titled CD - Traveler in Pain. Before Anders' departure, the band did send Anders off in style by playing one final show with him at Downtown's Golden West Saloon. The band took a few months off, with the task of trying to find a replacement to fill Anders’ shoes. The band also attempted to add a second guitar player to help fill out the sound in the performance of Traveler in Pain music. In the meantime, the remaining members completed their parts and finished working on the CD in May 2000. During the time off, the band was asked to perform at several venues in town (including Downtown's Spring Crawl), but due to our recording schedule, the band waited until mid June before booking future shows. The band did go through a few personnel changes over the summer. With the addition of Brian Maestas on guitar and drummer Ruben Castillo, we debuted our CD with a fresh line-up. The summer of pain rocked from June's CD release at the El Rey Theater, to the band becoming a regular in the bar circuit. The line-up may have changed a little bit, but the band rocked and the people had a blast. The band's fluidity and diversity is exemplified not only in the different styles of music we perform, but also in our ability to work with several different musicians and still put on a rocking show. Whatever successes we have had or may have can be attributed to the fact that we are willing to further develop and expand our set list when feasible, and our willingness to flyer and self promote as much as possible, as well as our ability to try to make every performance a special event. 2002 was a busy year in the local scene, which also saw the return of Brian Maestas on guitar and the departure of original bass player R.L. Florez, replaced by Anton B. Rich. We became a regular in the local band scene circa 2001 and have played 2 to 3 weekends a month consistently since 2001. In that time we have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Albuquerque's best local bands, including "Raven Storm, Raven's X, Ravenous", "Joker's Wild", "Shit Happens", "Systemic", "Harvey and the Prowlers", "12 Gauge", "Spanish Fly", "Booger", "Kaotic State", "No Promise", "Pimpin Gin", "SKAR", "Down on Mercy", "Toil", and "Severe". In addition, we have had the honor of including in the band, either part time or as honorary members, Gary Gabaldon (Dr. Feelgood, Joker's Wild, Hit Parade), Anton B. Rich, Earnest Holguin (Joker's Wild, Suicide Solution), Tom Gutierrez (Dr. Feelgood, Hit parade), Greg Valdez (Twice Shy,amnesia), Fred Velásquez, Dennis Painter (Harvey and the Prowlers), Spidey, Phil Miranda (Shit Happens), Ruben Castillo, and many more killer musicians who have sat in with us, and inspired us over the years. During the period from 2001 through August 2003, we were able to maintain our level of productivity, but felt we were unable to develop our original material or settle on a line-up. While we were able to "rock out" by commissioning the help of Gary, Phil, or Greg, we were unable to solidify this line-up as our drummer, our band, etc. This changed in September 2003, when we debuted our most consistent line-up yet, which included monster drummer Todd Wilburn, whose influences range from Jazz to Death Metal, has a resume too long to print, and whose skills as a recording producer conjure up memories of Phil Spector’s wall of sound meets Frankenstein. The final piece of the puzzle of pain was Patrick Gabaldon, whose playing enthusiasm, comedy, and willingness to play any song (really, any song), provided inspiration to the fans and the rest of the band. This definitive line -up played throughout Albuquerque for over 4 years which culminated with our Album and CD release In August of 2006. The band has had a few line-up changes over the past 5 years, as Brian and Pat took leave from the band and were replaced by James CAMPBELL AND STEVE WILBURN, Who was then followed by our current bass player extraordinaire, Tom Michaels RESPECTIVELY and Brian Maestas returned on Lead Guitar have solidified our line-up since 2010. On behalf of the band, after all these years, I'm still honored to perform and entertain all of you. Thank you for being part of our Family of Pain and for your support through the years. Enjoy the site, enjoy the music. PAIN...
